Chivalrous Rage

I cannot sleep at night
Bound by shame and anguish
A battered maiden sleeps bloody tonight
While children's tiny feet go frost bitten

Through the bus window you spot me
A vacant expression meets my smile
I am a hero unwanted and unloved
Yet I persevere ever onward
To rescue those I might find

How can we sleep tonight
No shame or anguish finds our minds
We sleep peacefully save for stress
Which comes from our possessions
From our greed our lust or revenge

While children the world over die
Of hunger frost bitten feet on concrete
Mother sold into sex slavery
Too young they leave you
To die, no rescue
No rescue

Through the bus window you spot me
Lips contorting back the advance
Of chivalry's innocent and dying smile
I am a hero reflecting an ancient image
Persevering ever onward without a drop of hope
To rescue the maiden and the child

I cannot sleep at night
Bound by shame and anguish
A battered maiden sleeps bloody tonight
While children's tiny feet go frost bitten
